Sunday 30th July 2017
After my birthday eve celebrations, the night before with the girls, I awoke around 8:30am to an awful hangover. I was hungry and my boyfriend made me breakfast in bed (how sweet is he?!). I then opened my birthday cards and gifts, before going back to sleep until around 12pm. When I finally got out of bed, still feeling rough, I showered and had some lunch. Around 3pm, I decided it was time to have the ‘hair of the dog’ and opened a bottle of champagne, while I slowly got ready.
The pre-booked taxi was late again, but only by 15 minutes this time and arrived at 5pm. The taxi took us to the Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane, London where we had a 6 pm reservation at the Theo Randall’s restaurant.
We arrived at the hotel early for our table booking, so we could to the bar for a pre-dinner drink. We had a glass of champagne while relaxing in the bar and chatting.
The hotel bar was lovely and elegant, with friendly staff that made us feel comfortable and relaxed. Although, our table was booked 6pm, they knew we were in the bar and were happy for us to stay in the bar and enjoy our drinks until we were ready.
It was around 6:30ish when we went to the restaurant and were taken to our table. The elegance and style of the bar continued into the restaurant and the staff were welcoming and professional. We ordered our drinks, as we were going to be eating Italian food we went for Italian drinks. We were handed our menus (mine a vegan menu) and decided to go for the 3-course set menu. We were giving complementary bruschetta (mine gluten free), I only had 2/3 of it as I wanted to be able to eat the 3-courses I had ordered.
My starter was a soup with beans and kale, it was lovely and flavoursome.
My main was mixed grilled veggies, it was tasty but the portion size was very large. I only eat 2/3 of it, as I wanted space for my dessert.
My dessert was 2 scoops of peach sorbet, it was lovely but could only manage to eat 1 scoop.
I was a little disappointed the staff didn’t wish me happy birthday or do and special birthday presentation on my dessert. That said my boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal.
Once the bill was settled, we wondered up the road to the Galvin at Windows bar in the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane. Galvin at Windows is on the 29th floor and has beautiful views of west London. The bar is very chic and stylish with floor to ceiling windows.
We sat in the comfy seating by the windows relaxing while having a couple of drinks and enjoyed the views. It was romantic, the perfect way to end my birthday. We left around 10pm, called a taxi and headed home.
My birthday was exactly how I wanted it to be, a lovely evening dinner and drinks with amazing views shared with my boyfriend. Perfect!
